El Alamein International Airport is on Egypt’s Mediterranean North Coast in Matrouh Governorate, about 160 km west of Alexandria and roughly 30 km from New Alamein City. It is privately run under a long-term concession and has one terminal. It is the main gateway for the beach resorts of the North Coast, known in Egypt as the Sahel.

Airlines and routes

The airport is busiest in summer. Gulf carriers including Saudia, flynas, flydubai, Gulf Air and Etihad run seasonal flights, and Air Cairo has added routes such as Moscow, which launched in August 2026. European charters from airlines such as Smartwings, Air Serbia, TAROM, Enter Air and BH Air bring holidaymakers from Central and Eastern Europe. flynas reported 15 airlines using the airport in 2026, with more expected. Outside the summer season the schedule is much thinner, so check before planning a winter trip.

Getting to town

There is no public transport link. Resorts and hotels arrange transfers, and taxis and ride-hailing cars are available. Allow time for the coastal highway, which gets busy on summer weekends.

Facilities

The terminal is compact, with check-in, passport control, cafés and car hire desks. It also hosts the El Alamein International Airshow. If you are visiting the Second World War cemeteries and museum at El Alamein, this is the closest airport.
