In an emergency call the Tourist Police on 126, Ambulance 123 or Police 122, then contact your embassy. Embassies help with lost or stolen passports, arrests, serious illness and emergencies; they cannot pay bills or intervene in legal cases.

Frequently asked questions
What should I do if I lose my passport in Egypt?
Report it to the nearest police station or the Tourist Police (126) and get a police report, then contact your embassy for an emergency travel document. You will also need an exit stamp arrangement with the Passports and Immigration authority, which your embassy can explain.
Are there consulates outside Cairo?
A few countries keep consulates or honorary consuls in Alexandria, Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh or Luxor. Check your embassy’s website for the nearest one.
Do I need an appointment?
Usually yes. Most embassies handle consular services by appointment only, booked online. Emergencies are dealt with by phone, including outside office hours.
Should I register with my embassy?
Many countries run a free online registration or travel alert service (for example STEP for US citizens or Smartraveller for Australians). It helps your embassy reach you in an emergency.
