Aswan International Airport
Airport
Aswan International Airport lies about 16 km south-west of Aswan city, on the west side of the Nile near the High Dam. Despite its name, it handles mainly domestic flights. It is the usual air gateway for Aswan, Philae, the Nubian villages and Nile cruises that start or finish in the city, and the hub for short flights to Abu Simbel.
Airlines and routes
EgyptAir and Air Cairo fly to Cairo and to Abu Simbel, and Nile Air also flies to Cairo. Jazeera Airways announced a new route to Kuwait City from late October 2026. Flights from Europe usually connect through Cairo; a few tour operators run seasonal charters in winter. Cairo flights take about an hour and a half.
Getting to town
Taxis wait outside arrivals; agree a price before you set off, or book a transfer through your hotel or cruise company. The drive to the Corniche takes around 25–30 minutes. If your hotel is on an island, such as Elephantine, you will finish the journey by boat.
Facilities
The terminal has cafés, a few shops, ATMs and car hire desks. Security checks at the entrance can be slow when several flights depart together, so arrive in good time, especially for the early-morning Abu Simbel flights.
