Baron Palace Sahl Hasheesh

Baron Palace is the most opulent resort in Sahl Hasheesh, the planned resort bay about 20 kilometres south of Hurghada. Its architecture is pure fantasy: a vast palace with domes, columns, gilded halls and grand staircases that look as if they were lifted from an Arabian Nights film set. The group markets it as a six-star experience, although its official grade is five stars.

Rooms and suites are large and richly decorated, many with sea views, and top suites come with butler service. The resort stretches along a long private beach of soft sand, with calm water and a jetty that leads out to the reef for snorkelling.

Several pools are scattered through the gardens, along with a spa, a gym and a kids’ club. Stays are usually on an all-inclusive or half-board basis, with a main buffet and a la carte restaurants offering Italian, Asian and Middle Eastern menus. Guests praise the food, beach and service, while entertainment is low-key and shop prices are high.

Hurghada airport is about 25 minutes away. It suits couples and families looking for a glamorous, relaxing beach holiday in a quieter part of the Red Sea coast.
