This hotel’s setting is unique in Alexandria. It stands inside the walled royal gardens of Montaza Palace, the former summer residence of Egypt’s last kings, on a quiet cove at the eastern end of the city. It was built in 1964 to host an Arab League summit and is now run by the Danish-founded Helnan group, which markets it as the Helnan Royal Hotel, sometimes called Helnan Royal Palestine.

The private beach in the sheltered cove is the main attraction in summer, and there is also a seasonally heated pool, a spa and a gym. Four restaurants cover international buffets, seafood and lighter meals, with terraces facing the sea.
Hotel guests can stroll the Montaza gardens, which are among the greenest spaces in the city. The downside is distance: the Corniche, Bibliotheca and downtown are 30 to 45 minutes away by car. It suits families and couples who want a relaxed, green, seaside stay rather than a central city hotel.
