Dolphin House snorkelling trip
Trip
Dolphin House is a horseshoe-shaped reef south of Hurghada where a pod of wild spinner dolphins often comes to rest. The boat heads there first, while the dolphins are most likely to be around.
The dolphins are wild, so sightings are likely but never guaranteed. Watch them from the boat or the water and keep your distance; chasing or touching them is not allowed. The day also includes guided snorkelling at coral reefs, lunch on board, soft drinks and water.
Snorkelling gear, life jackets and a guide are provided, so you do not need to be a strong swimmer.
Who it suits
This trip suits wildlife lovers, families and anyone who would like the chance to see dolphins in the wild. Since snorkelling gear, life jackets and a guide are provided, it works for beginners as well as confident swimmers.
What to bring
- Swimwear and a towel
- Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses
- A light long-sleeved top for the sun on deck
- A warm layer for the ride back in winter
- A waterproof case if you want to take photos
- Cash for extras and tips
Good to know
Pickup is at about 08:00 and the trip lasts all day. The boat goes to the dolphin area first, as early in the day is the best chance of a sighting.
The dolphins rest in the calm water of the reef, so the crew will ask you to keep quiet in the water, stay calm and let the dolphins come to you if they choose. Following these rules is the best way to have a good encounter and to protect the dolphins.
The sail to Dolphin House is longer than to the islands near Hurghada, and the sea can be choppy. If you get seasick, take something before you board.
The water is cooler from around December to March, so swims may be shorter then.
