Quad bike safari and camel ride

After hotel pickup you are driven to a safari station in the desert, where instructors show you how to handle the quad bike.

The group rides in a line behind a guide across sand and rocky ground towards the mountains. At a Bedouin-style camp you stop for tea and a short camel ride before heading back.

Bring a scarf and sunglasses or goggles for the dust; they are not provided.

Who it suits

A good half-day for anyone who wants a taste of the desert without giving up a whole day. It suits first-timers, couples and groups of friends. You do not need any experience with quad bikes, as the instructors cover the basics before you start.

What to bring

As well as a scarf and goggles or sunglasses:

• Closed shoes and clothes that can get dusty
• Sunscreen and a hat
• A light jacket in winter, as the morning can be cool on the bike
• Water and some cash for tips

Good to know

Pickup is at about 08:00, and the trip takes half a day, so you are back in time for an afternoon at the beach.

Riding a quad over rough ground takes some arm strength and concentration. The guide sets the pace and the group rides in a line, so stay in your place and keep a safe distance from the bike in front.

The summer sun is strong even in the morning, so drink plenty of water. In winter the desert is pleasant for riding.
