Al Moudira

Al Moudira is a one-of-a-kind boutique hotel on Luxor’s West Bank, set among sugar cane fields and palm groves near the village of Hager El Dabbeyya. Built in the style of an old Ottoman-era country palace, it is a cluster of domed buildings, shaded courtyards and gardens, and it is a member of Relais & Chateaux.

There are around fifty rooms and suites, each decorated differently with antiques, painted ceilings, carved wooden screens and colourful tiles collected from across the region. Many have private terraces or small gardens. The feeling is more of a private estate than a hotel, and evenings are very quiet.

A large pool sits in the gardens, and there is a hammam-style spa with massage and sauna. The restaurant serves Mediterranean and Egyptian dishes, with meals taken in courtyards or by the fire in winter. Some guests note that hot water can be unreliable at times.

The Valley of the Kings, Medinet Habu and the Colossi of Memnon are a short drive away, but the East Bank temples need a car and a ferry or bridge crossing. It suits couples, honeymooners and design lovers who want a peaceful, characterful retreat close to the West Bank monuments.
