Steigenberger Nile Palace

Steigenberger Nile Palace is a large, comfortable hotel on the East Bank of the Nile in Luxor, set on Khaled Ibn El Walid Street in the southern part of town. Its 300 or so rooms and suites all have balconies or terraces, and those facing the river look straight across to the West Bank mountains, behind which lies the Valley of the Kings.

The hotel has a classic, slightly formal style, with a domed lobby and plenty of marble. Rooms are spacious and regularly refreshed, although some guests note the building is now over twenty years old. The pool area, with gardens and Nile views, is a pleasant place to spend the hot afternoon hours.

Facilities include several restaurants serving international buffets and a la carte menus, bars, a spa and a gym, plus a private jetty used by boats crossing to the West Bank. There is also a convention centre, so the hotel hosts events and groups.

Luxor Temple and the Corniche promenade are a short taxi or horse-carriage ride away, and Karnak a little further. Guest scores are high, especially for staff, breakfast and value. It suits families, groups and travellers who want a well-run five-star hotel at a moderate price.
